Aamir Khan on Assam

Thank You Assam for giving me a memorable experience!

Says Aamir Khan in an exclusive conversation with senior journalist Afsana Ahmed for The Assam Tribune

Aamir Khan recently visited Assam. Though it was a quite visit, the Assam media went berserk reporting it. Similarly in Mumbai Aamir is set for his next release Dhoom on the 20th Dec. And the national media is awaiting the verdict of Aamir and Dhoom. Clearly Aamir is in the news, soon after it’ll be followed by the second of Satyamev Jayate whose work is in full progress. Most definitely, Aamir Khan is back in the headlines! But the actor, this time has chosen not to hammer the media with multiple interviews or bombard the public with random appearances on TV shows or events about anything.

I had been intending to check with him about his Assam trip sometime now. So I reached out to him for an interview. Unhesitatingly he agreed and specially requested that we highlight his trip to Assam. And what better way to convey Aamir’s thanks and sentiments  to Assam then put him in The Assam Tribune, leading daily of the North East. Here he talks about his Assam trip and everything from his personal and work-related relationships to his upcoming films. What more, Aamir has promised to be back in Assam soon…with something under his sleeve.

You recently went to Assam. How was the experience been?
Holidaying in North-East especially Assam has been on my agenda for a while now and I have told you this even in the past. I wanted to explore it because I had heard so much about Assam and even the other parts of the North-East. This time I chose Assam. I basically wanted to surprise Kiran, my wife, on her 40th birthday so I chose the place and she didn’t know where we were going. She didn’t know that I had actually invited 20 of her friends. Most of them were actually her old friends from Jamia Millia Islamia and even before. Some of them were her school friends, people she’s still very close to. So it was a nice surprise and we were there for a little over a week. It was a fantastic experience and I think Assam is a really beautiful place. As a landscape it’s really beautiful and I found the people there to be really warm and
beautiful. You won’t believe the kind of reception we got over there. They really loving and warm and really were welcoming us with open arms, so it felt really nice. I want to thank them through you for the really memorable experience we had over there and I would like to recommend to other people who like to travel to go there.

There were reports that you took a lot of interest in finding out information about the Rhinos there.
I happened to learn about the Rhinos because of my visit to Kaziranga. It’s very interesting history.

Tell me, what did you really enjoy in Assam?
Well, first of course it was the food. It’s flavour, taste and variety is amazing. There were different kinds of
food which I tried out over there which was really amazing. And we went to some villages over there and met some people too. We just interacted with people there. Assam is beyond what I had imagined in terms of beauty.

There were reports in Assam media that you were thinking of planning to make a movie on the conservation
of rhinos. Any truth?

The Forest Minister there requested me to do that. And certainly if a script comes up, I’ll
be happy to explore it. You get it to me. However, nothing that’s happening right now.

In the past you mentioned it to me that you would want to cast Assamese talent in your movies as your heroines. How far has your thoughts progressed?

I would most definitely want to. The girls are very beautiful with expressive eyes. And the boys are very handsome with chiselled looks. If I get a script which requires such faces I will do it.
